NORMALIZE IT BEING OKAY TO BE WRONG
So, it’s a very popular thing to say, “We shouldn’t judge another’s path. What is a specific thing in your tradition, may not have the same characteristics in their tradition.” Yeah, I get that. However, I see a whole lot of borrowing going on that is done without acknowledging the source, or without even knowing the source.
But, hey, if there are no rules, and nothing is enforced in regards to traditions, and there’s nothing of substance, nor any guideposts, then lets just all call ourselves 33rd degree chaos magicians and be done with it. What the fuck? Nothing means nothing, everything is permitted, here’s your participation trophy, let’s begin at the end. I don’t think that is the way it’s supposed to work.
Not everything is gatekeeping, some of it is just learning right from wrong. That idea that nobody can call anyone out about anything is just as wrong-headed as folks acting like there isn’t anything new under the sun or that flexibility and individuality should not be allowed under any circumstances. There isn’t anything wrong with correcting someone who is doing wrong, and there isn’t anything wrong in being corrected. Everyone is learning, even those who would instruct.
Sure, your whole practice can operate in a vacuum, but is that what is best for you?
